3 Best Fixes for Speed Limit Not Showing in Google Maps on Android

Google Maps is one of the most reliable navigation apps out there, but sometimes you hit an annoying snag: the speed limit just won’t show up. If you’re driving and want to stay on the right side of the law, that’s a problem. Here’s why this happens and the best ways to fix it.

Why Isn’t the Speed Limit Showing Up?

Speed limit info isn’t available everywhere yet. Google is rolling it out gradually, so some regions and countries don’t support it. But if you know speed limits are available in your area and they’re still not showing, it’s usually a settings issue, an outdated app, or something funky with your phone.

Here are the three best fixes that solve this problem for most Android users.

1. Make Sure Speed Limits Are Supported in Your Area

First, check if Google Maps actually offers speed limit info where you are. As of now, speed limits are widely available in the US, UK, and parts of Europe, but not everywhere. If you’re in a supported country and still can’t see them, move on to the next fixes.

How to check:

  • Open Google Maps and start navigation.
  • Drive on a major road—speed limits usually appear in the bottom corner.

2. Update Google Maps to the Latest Version

Outdated apps cause weird issues, and Google updates Maps constantly. Speed limit info might be part of an update you missed.

How to update:

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Search for Google Maps.
  3. Tap Update if you see it.

After updating, restart your phone and check if the speed limit shows up.

3. Clear Cache and Check Navigation Settings

Sometimes Maps needs a refresh. Old data or a wrong setting can block the speed limit from appearing.

How to clear cache:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Google Maps.
  2. Tap Storage & cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache (don’t worry, your places and history stay safe).

Check navigation settings:

  1. Open Google Maps.
  2. Tap your profile photo > Settings > Navigation settings.
  3. Scroll to Driving options. Make sure Speed limits is toggled ON.

Quick Recap

  • Speed limit missing? First, check if it’s available in your area.
  • Update Google Maps—this solves most issues.
  • Clear the app cache and check that the speed limit setting is on.

If you’ve tried all this and still see nothing, it’s probably a Google Maps rollout issue. All you can do is wait for the next update.
