How to stop on this day memories emails and notifications from OneDrive

Microsoft OneDrive loves to remind you of your memories from years past—just like Facebook or Google Photos. But not everyone wants a nostalgia trip popping up in their inbox or as a push notification. If you’re tired of OneDrive’s “On This Day” memory emails and alerts, here’s how to shut them off for good.

Why You’re Seeing These Notifications

OneDrive scans your photo library and surfaces old photos on their anniversaries. It’s meant to be a feel-good feature, but it’s not for everyone—especially if the memories are unwanted, or you simply don’t like extra notifications.

Luckily, Microsoft gives you the option to turn these off. The setting is just a little buried.

How to Turn Off “On This Day” Notifications in OneDrive

1. Use the OneDrive Website (Browser)

  1. Go to onedrive.live.com and sign in.
  2. Click the Settings gear icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Options or Settings (it may vary slightly).
  4. In the left-hand sidebar, click Notifications.
  5. Uncheck the box that says “I want to see memories from this day in previous years.”
  6. Click Save.

2. Using the OneDrive Mobile App

As of now, the app doesn’t let you turn off “On This Day” notifications directly. You’ll need to use the web version to manage this setting. However, you can mute notifications for OneDrive in your phone’s system settings:

  • On iPhone:
Go to Settings > Notifications > OneDrive and turn off Allow Notifications.
  • On Android:
Go to Settings > Apps > OneDrive > Notifications, then toggle off the ones you don’t want.

How to Stop “On This Day” Emails from OneDrive

If you’re getting memory emails and want them to stop:

  1. Look for an Unsubscribe link at the bottom of one of the memory emails.
  2. Click it and follow the instructions to unsubscribe.

Alternatively, changing the memory notification setting (as shown above) also stops the emails in most cases.

Bonus Tip: Stop Photo Tagging and Face Detection

While you’re at it, you might also want to turn off face detection in OneDrive if privacy is a concern:

  1. Visit https://onedrive.live.com.
  2. Go to Settings > Photos.
  3. Toggle People tags and Face detection off.

Final Thoughts

You’re in control of your digital memories. Whether it’s for emotional reasons or just notification fatigue, it’s totally fine to turn off features that don’t serve you. OneDrive doesn’t make these settings obvious, but now you know exactly where to go.
