How to Install and Run ChatGPT as a Windows App

ChatGPT is powerful, but opening it in your browser every time can be a hassle. What if you could run ChatGPT like a regular Windows app, right from your desktop? Good news: you can. Here’s how to do it, step by step.

Why Run ChatGPT as a Windows App?

  • Faster access: No need to open a browser and search for the site.
  • Cleaner experience: Use ChatGPT in its own window, without browser clutter.
  • Stay logged in: Avoid constant sign-ins or losing your place.

Method 1: Use Microsoft Edge to Install ChatGPT as an App

Microsoft Edge makes it easy to turn any website into a standalone app. Here’s how:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Go to https://chat.openai.com/.
  3. Click the three dots menu (•••) in the top right corner.
  4. Hover over “Apps” in the menu.
  5. Click “Install this site as an app.”
  6. Name your app (“ChatGPT” is fine) and hit Install.

That’s it! You’ll see ChatGPT in its own window, and you’ll get a shortcut in your Start menu or on your desktop.

Method 2: Use Google Chrome to Install ChatGPT as an App

Prefer Chrome? No problem.

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Go to https://chat.openai.com/.
  3. Click the three dots menu (top right).
  4. Go to “More tools” > “Create shortcut…”
  5. In the pop-up, check “Open as window.”
  6. Click Create.

Now ChatGPT runs in its own window, separate from Chrome tabs.

Method 3: Pin ChatGPT to Your Taskbar

If you use either of the methods above, you can:

  • Right-click the app window on your taskbar.
  • Select “Pin to taskbar” for even quicker access.

Bonus: Keyboard Shortcut

Once ChatGPT is installed as an app, you can set up a keyboard shortcut:

  1. Find the app shortcut on your desktop.
  2. Right-click it and select Properties.
  3. Click in the “Shortcut key” field and press your desired key combination (e.g., Ctrl+Alt+G).
  4. Click OK.

Now you can launch ChatGPT with a single keystroke.

Wrapping Up

With just a few clicks, you can install and run ChatGPT like a native Windows app. It’s faster, easier, and feels more professional than juggling browser tabs.
