How to Fix When Wi-Fi Keeps Disconnecting on Windows 11

A stable Wi-Fi connection isn’t a luxury—it’s essential. But if you’re on Windows 11 and your Wi-Fi keeps dropping, it can drive you up the wall. Luckily, most connection issues come from common, fixable problems. Here’s how to troubleshoot and get your Wi-Fi working reliably again.

1. Restart Everything (Seriously)

Sometimes, the simple stuff works. Restart your computer, your router, and your modem. Unplug the router/modem, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. Test your connection after things boot up.

2. Forget and Reconnect to Your Wi-Fi

  • Click the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar.
  • Right-click your network > “Forget.”
  • Reconnect by selecting the network and entering the password again.

3. Update Your Network Drivers

Outdated or corrupt drivers are a major culprit.

  • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Network adapters.
  • Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter > Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
  • Restart your PC.

If Windows says you have the latest drivers, check your PC or network adapter manufacturer’s website for the most recent version.

4. Run the Network Troubleshooter

Windows 11 comes with a built-in troubleshooter.

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Under Most frequent, find Network Adapter and click Run.
  • Follow the instructions.

5. Change Power Management Settings

Windows sometimes turns off Wi-Fi to save power.

  • In Device Manager, double-click your Wi-Fi adapter.
  • Go to the Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  • Click OK.

6. Reset Network Settings

If nothing’s worked so far, reset your network.

  • Go to Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset.
  • Click Reset now.

Your PC will restart, and you’ll have to reconnect to your Wi-Fi and possibly reinstall VPNs or other network software.

7. Check for Interference

Microwaves, cordless phones, and thick walls can mess with Wi-Fi. Try moving your PC or router, or switch to the 5 GHz band if your router supports it.

8. Check for Windows Updates

Microsoft rolls out fixes all the time.

9. Disable VPNs or Security Software

Some VPNs and security software can interfere with connections. Temporarily disable them to see if it makes a difference.

10. Call Your Internet Provider

If your Wi-Fi still keeps disconnecting, there might be an issue with your line or modem. Call your ISP to check for outages or faults.

Conclusion:
A Wi-Fi connection that keeps disconnecting on Windows 11 is annoying, but almost always fixable. Start simple, go through these steps, and you should be back online without the headaches. If you have a unique fix that worked for you, drop it in the comments!
