How to Change or Fake Location in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox

Sometimes, you want your browser to think you’re somewhere else. Maybe you’re testing a website, want to see local content from another country, or need more privacy. Here’s a no-nonsense guide to faking your location in the most popular browsers: Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.

Why Change Your Browser Location?

Websites use your browser’s location to show you local news, weather, or region-locked content. Faking your location can help you:

  • Access location-restricted content
  • Test geo-targeted ads and services
  • Protect your privacy

Method 1: Using Built-In Developer Tools

Chrome & Edge

Chrome and Edge share the same engine, so the steps are identical.

  1. Open Developer Tools
    Press Ctrl + Shift + I (Windows) or Cmd + Option + I (Mac).
  2. Go to the “Sensors” Panel
    • Click the three dots at the top right of DevTools.
    • Go to More tools > Sensors.
  3. Set a Fake Location
    • In the “Geolocation” drop-down, choose a preset city or select “Custom location.”
    • Enter the latitude and longitude of your desired location.
  4. Reload the Page
Your browser will now use the fake location you set for any site that requests it.

Firefox

  1. Open Developer Tools
    Press Ctrl + Shift + I (Windows/Linux) or Cmd + Option + I (Mac).
  2. Open the “Settings” Panel
    Click the gear icon.
  3. Find the “Override Geolocation” Option
    • Scroll to “Available Toolbox Buttons.”
    • Enable “Geolocation.”
  4. Set the Coordinates
    • A new location icon appears in DevTools.
    • Click it, then enter latitude and longitude.
  5. Refresh the Page

Method 2: Using Browser Extensions

If you want a faster way, there are extensions for all browsers:

  • Location Guard (Chrome/Firefox): Lets you set a fake location or add “noise” to your real one.
  • Faux Location (Edge/Chrome): Easily spoof your location with a few clicks.

Just install the extension, set your desired location, and you’re set.

Method 3: VPNs and Proxies

Changing your browser’s geolocation is not the same as changing your IP address.
Some sites use your IP to determine your location.

To fully spoof your location:

  • Use a VPN (like NordVPN, ExpressVPN, etc.)
  • Or a reputable proxy service

Combine a VPN/proxy with the browser methods above for the best results.

Tips & Warnings

  • Not all sites use browser geolocation—some just check your IP.
  • Faking location is useful for testing, but don’t break the law or a website’s terms of service.
  • Remember to turn off location spoofing when you’re done.

Final Thoughts

Changing your browser location in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox is simple. Whether you’re a developer, a digital nomad, or just curious, these methods put you in control. Just remember to use them responsibly.
