Can’t Sign Into the Microsoft Store? Try These 4 Fixes

Getting locked out of the Microsoft Store is frustrating—especially when you need an app or update, and nothing seems to work. If you keep running into “Can’t sign in” errors or the Store refuses to accept your Microsoft account, don’t panic. Here are four fixes that actually work.

1. Check Your Internet Connection

It sounds basic, but a shaky or unreliable connection is the number one reason the Microsoft Store fails to sign you in. Make sure you:

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router
  • Try switching to a different network
  • Turn off any VPNs—they can sometimes block the Microsoft Store from connecting properly

After that, restart your PC and try again.

2. Reset the Microsoft Store App

A corrupted Store cache or misbehaving app can block sign-ins. Here’s how to reset the Microsoft Store:

  1. Press Windows Key + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Apps > Installed apps (or “Apps & features”).
  3. Scroll to Microsoft Store, click it, and select Advanced options.
  4. Click Reset.

This will clear out any glitches—no need to reinstall Windows or lose your files.

3. Sync Your Microsoft Account

Sometimes, your PC and your Microsoft account just aren’t in sync.
To fix this:

  1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info.
  2. Click Sign in with a Microsoft account instead if you’re not already.
  3. If you’re already signed in, try signing out and then signing back in.
  4. Make sure the account listed matches the one you want to use with the Store.

After syncing, try launching the Store again.

4. Run the Windows Store Troubleshooter

Windows includes built-in troubleshooters for problems like this. Here’s what to do:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  3. Find Windows Store Apps and click Run.

Let Windows scan and automatically fix any issues with the Store.

Still Stuck? Here’s What to Do Next

If none of these fixes work, you might be dealing with something deeper—like a problem with your Windows installation or a temporary Microsoft server issue. In that case:

  • Check for Windows updates
  • Temporarily disable third-party antivirus software
  • Visit the Microsoft support page for more advanced help

Bottom line:
The Microsoft Store not letting you sign in is annoying, but in most cases, one of these four steps will get you back in. Try them in order, and you’ll probably save yourself a lot of stress (and Googling).
