How to Change Facebook Language Back to English
Facebook sometimes changes its display language—either by accident, after a software update, or because of a wrong click. If you suddenly find your Facebook feed in a language you don’t understand, don’t worry. Getting it back to English is quick and easy, even if you can’t read the current language.
Follow these steps to get Facebook back to English on both desktop and mobile.
On Desktop (Web Browser)
- Log into Facebook.
Go to facebook.com and sign in as usual. - Find the language settings:
- Look for a downward arrow (account menu) in the top right corner of the page.
- Click it, then select Settings & Privacy (even if you can’t read the text, the icon is a gear ⚙️).
- From the expanded menu, click Settings.
- Go to Language and Region:
- On the left sidebar, look for an option that often has a globe 🌐 icon. This is Language and Region.
- Click it.
- Change the language:
- At the top, you’ll see “Facebook language” or similar.
- Click Edit (pencil icon) next to it.
- In the dropdown menu, scroll until you find English (US) or English (UK).
- Select it and click Save Changes.
On Mobile App (iPhone & Android)
- Open the Facebook app and log in.
- Tap the Menu icon:
- Three horizontal lines (☰), usually in the bottom right (iPhone) or top right (Android).
- Scroll down to Settings & Privacy:
- Tap to expand the menu (look for the gear ⚙️ or a small dropdown arrow).
- Tap “Language”
- On some phones, it may say App Language.
- Tap it and select English from the list.
- Restart the app (if needed).
- The language should now be set to English.
If You’re Still Stuck
- Visit facebook.com/settings?tab=language directly.
- Or use another device where Facebook is still in English to guide you through the menus.
Final Tip
Language changes apply only to your own Facebook view—not for your friends or family. You can always switch languages again later if you want to practice or explore!
