How to Install latest Deepin Linux on VirtualBox

Deepin Linux stands out for its elegant interface and user-friendly design. If you want to try it without replacing your main OS, VirtualBox is the perfect solution. Here’s how you can install the latest Deepin Linux on VirtualBox, step by step.

What You’ll Need

  • VirtualBox installed on your system
  • Deepin Linux ISO (download the latest version from the official site)
  • At least 20GB of free disk space and 4GB+ RAM recommended

1. Download Deepin Linux ISO

Head to the Deepin download page and grab the latest ISO file. Choose a nearby mirror for faster downloads.

2. Install and Launch VirtualBox

If you don’t have VirtualBox, download and install it from virtualbox.org.
Once installed, launch VirtualBox.

3. Create a New Virtual Machine

  1. Click “New”.
  2. Name it Deepin (or whatever you like).
  3. Set Type to “Linux” and Version to “Debian (64-bit)”.
  4. Click Next.

4. Assign Memory (RAM)

  • Set at least 4096 MB (4GB) for a smoother experience.
  • Click Next.

5. Create a Virtual Hard Disk

  • Click Create.
  • Choose VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image). Click Next.
  • Choose Dynamically allocated. Click Next.
  • Set at least 20GB disk size. Click Create.

6. Mount the Deepin ISO

  • Select your Deepin VM in the list.
  • Click Settings > Storage.
  • Under Controller: IDE, click Empty.
  • On the right, click the disk icon > Choose a disk file…
  • Select the Deepin ISO you downloaded.
  • Click OK.

7. Adjust Additional Settings (Optional but Recommended)

  • Go to Settings > System > Processor. Increase CPUs to 2 or more if you can.
  • Under Display, bump up Video Memory to at least 128 MB.
  • Enable 3D Acceleration if your system supports it.

8. Start the Virtual Machine

  • Click Start with your Deepin VM selected.
  • The VM will boot from the ISO.

9. Install Deepin Linux

  1. Follow the on-screen installer.
  2. Choose your language and other preferences.
  3. Select the disk (usually the only one listed).
  4. Set up your user account and password.
  5. Let the installer finish. This may take a few minutes.

10. Eject the ISO and Reboot

  • Once installed, Deepin may ask to reboot.
  • Before restarting, go to Devices > Optical Drives > Remove disk from virtual drive.
  • Restart the VM.

  • Install Guest Additions: With the VM running, go to Devices > Insert Guest Additions CD image. This helps with display resolution and shared clipboard.
