How to Install latest Linux Lite on Virtualbox

Linux Lite is a lightweight, user-friendly Linux distribution perfect for beginners and anyone wanting a fast, efficient OS. Running it on VirtualBox lets you test, play, or use Linux Lite without touching your main system.

Here’s how to install the latest Linux Lite on VirtualBox.

1. Download VirtualBox

First, download and install VirtualBox for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux). Follow the on-screen instructions for your platform.

2. Get the Latest Linux Lite ISO

Head to the Linux Lite Downloads page and grab the latest ISO image. Save it somewhere you’ll remember.

3. Create a New Virtual Machine in VirtualBox

1. Open VirtualBox.
2. Click “New”.
3. Name your VM (e.g., “Linux Lite”), set Type to “Linux” and Version to “Ubuntu (64-bit)” (Linux Lite is Ubuntu-based).
4. Click Next.

4. Assign RAM

Allocate RAM.
Recommended: At least 2 GB (2048 MB) for smooth performance. If you have more to spare, go for it.

5. Create a Virtual Hard Disk

• Choose “Create a virtual hard disk now”.
• Click Create.
• Select VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image).
• Choose Dynamically allocated.
• Set disk size (at least 20 GB recommended).

• Click Create.

6. Mount the Linux Lite ISO

1. Select your new VM and click Settings.
2. Go to the Storage section.
3. Under “Controller: IDE”, click the empty disc icon.
4. Click the disc icon next to “Optical Drive” and select Choose a disk file.
5. Find and select your downloaded Linux Lite ISO.
6. Click OK.

7. Start the VM

• Click Start.
• The VM will boot from the ISO.
• Select “Start Linux Lite” to try it out, or “Install Linux Lite” to jump right into installation.

8. Install Linux Lite

Follow the installer’s prompts:

• Select language and keyboard layout.
• Connect to Wi-Fi (optional).
• Erase disk and install Linux Lite (safe—only affects the virtual hard disk).
• Set your username and password.
• Let the installation run. When it’s done, restart the VM.
• Eject the ISO: When prompted, remove the ISO from the virtual drive (Settings > Storage > click the ISO and remove it).

9. All Done!
