How to Stop Seeing Google Ads on PC or Mobile Devices

Google Ads are everywhere — in search results, YouTube videos, websites, and even some mobile apps. While ads help keep a lot of content free, they can also be distracting or downright annoying. If you’re looking for ways to reduce or block Google Ads on your PC or mobile device, here’s how to do it.

1. Use an Ad Blocker (PC & Mobile Browsers)

The fastest and most effective way to stop seeing Google Ads is to use an ad blocker. These tools block ads from loading on web pages before you even see them.

On PC:

  • Install a browser extension like:
    • uBlock Origin
    • Adblock Plus
    • AdGuard
  • These are available for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.
  • Once installed, they’ll start blocking ads automatically.

On Mobile:

  • Use browsers with built-in ad blocking, like:
    • Brave
    • Firefox Focus
    • Samsung Internet with AdBlock add-ons

Or install a mobile-friendly ad blocker app like AdGuard for iOS/Android (note: iOS blocks are more limited due to system restrictions).

2. Turn Off Ad Personalization (Google Account)

This won’t block all ads, but it’ll stop Google from targeting you based on your behavior.

  • Go to adssettings.google.com
  • Turn off Ad Personalization
  • You’ll still see ads, but they won’t be tailored to your searches, interests, or online activity.

3. Adjust Site Settings in Chrome (PC & Android)

If you’re using Google Chrome, you can reduce some ad interruptions:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings
  • Scroll to Ads
  • Set it to Blocked on sites that show intrusive or misleading ads

This doesn’t block all ads, but it filters out the worst offenders.

4. Use Private Browsing or Guest Mode

Using Incognito Mode (Chrome) or Private Browsing (Firefox, Safari) limits tracking cookies, which reduces targeted ads. It won’t block all ads, but it keeps them less invasive.

5. Remove Ad-heavy Apps (Mobile)

Some free mobile apps rely heavily on Google Ads (via AdMob). If an app spams you with ads:

  • See if there’s a paid version with no ads
  • Switch to an alternative app
  • Or use Airplane Mode (for offline features only) to avoid ads altogether

6. Use a Pi-hole (Advanced – For Home Networks)

For tech-savvy users: A Pi-hole is a network-wide ad blocker you set up with a Raspberry Pi. It blocks all ads (including Google Ads) across every device on your Wi-Fi — no extra app installs needed. But it requires setup and basic networking knowledge.

Final Thoughts

You don’t have to put up with constant Google Ads. Whether you want to block them completely or just tone them down, there are plenty of options — from browser extensions to Google account settings. Start with what works best for your device and comfort level.

Want a quieter web experience? Block the noise and get back to what matters.
