How to Check and Reset Network Data Usage in Windows 11

Managing your internet data is more important than ever, especially if you’re on a limited plan or want to keep tabs on your usage. Windows 11 makes it easy to check how much data your device has used—and if needed, reset the counter to start fresh. Here’s how you can do both in a few quick steps.

How to Check Network Data Usage in Windows 11

1. Open Settings

  • Press Windows + I on your keyboard to open the Settings app.
  • Or click the Start button and select Settings.

2. Go to Network & Internet

  • In the left sidebar, click on Network & Internet.

3. View Data Usage

  • Scroll down and click on Data usage (you’ll see it under your current network connection).

You’ll see a breakdown showing:

  • Total data used over the last 30 days
  • Data usage per app (so you know what’s eating up your bandwidth)
  • Separate stats for Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections

How to Reset Network Data Usage in Windows 11

Want to clear your data stats and start tracking from zero? Here’s how:

1. Go Back to Data Usage Settings

  • Follow the steps above to open the Data usage page.

2. Reset Usage Stats

  • Scroll down to the bottom.
  • You’ll see a button labeled Reset usage stats.
  • Click it, and confirm if prompted.

Note: This only resets the data usage count for the currently selected network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet). If you use multiple networks, switch and repeat as needed.

Why Reset Your Data Usage?

  • Monitor usage more closely after switching to a new plan
  • Troubleshoot apps or updates that are using more data than expected
  • Track data after a billing cycle starts over

Tips to Reduce Data Usage

  • Set your connection as metered (in the Network settings) to restrict background data use.
  • Disable automatic updates for apps you don’t use often.
  • Use built-in Windows tools to limit data for specific apps.

Keeping an eye on your network data is simple in Windows 11, and resetting your stats is just a click away. Stay in control and avoid unwanted surprises on your next bill.
