How to install Latest Rhino Linux on VirtualBox

If you want to test Rhino Linux without messing up your main system, VirtualBox is your best friend. Here’s how you can install the latest Rhino Linux quickly and easily.

What You’ll Need

  • VirtualBox installed (Download from virtualbox.org)
  • The latest Rhino Linux ISO (Download here)
  • At least 4GB RAM (8GB+ recommended)
  • About 25GB of free disk space

Step 1: Download Rhino Linux ISO

Go to the Rhino Linux downloads page and grab the latest ISO. Save it somewhere you can find easily.

Step 2: Set Up a New Virtual Machine

  1. Open VirtualBox and click New.
  2. Name it “Rhino Linux”.
  3. Set Type to “Linux”, Version to “Ubuntu (64-bit)” (Rhino is Ubuntu-based).
  4. Click Next.

Step 3: Assign RAM and CPU

  • Set memory (RAM) to at least 4096 MB (4GB). If you have extra, give it more.
  • On the next screen, create a virtual hard disk (select VDI, dynamically allocated).
  • Set the hard disk size to 25GB or more.

Step 4: Mount the Rhino Linux ISO

  1. With your new VM selected, click Settings.
  2. Go to Storage.
  3. Under “Controller: IDE”, click the empty disc icon, then click the disc on the right, and select Choose a disk file.
  4. Select the Rhino Linux ISO you downloaded earlier.

Step 5: Boot and Install

  1. Click Start to boot your VM.
  2. Rhino Linux will load. Choose Install Rhino Linux.
  3. Follow the installer’s prompts:
    • Set your language, time zone, and keyboard layout.
    • Create your user account and password.
    • Let the installer handle partitioning (use the entire virtual disk).

Step 6: Remove ISO and Reboot

When installation finishes:

  1. Shutdown the VM.
  2. Go back to Settings > Storage.
  3. Remove the Rhino Linux ISO (set “Optical Drive” to empty).
  4. Start your VM again—now it’ll boot from the virtual hard drive.

Step 7: Update and Enjoy

Once logged in, open a terminal and run:

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

You’re now ready to explore Rhino Linux in VirtualBox! Test apps, try out features, or just play around without risk.
