How to Remove Bing Chat “Discover” Button in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge is a solid browser, but lately, many users are frustrated by the persistent Bing Chat “Discover” button on the toolbar. If you don’t use Bing Chat or just want a cleaner browser interface, here’s how you can remove (or at least hide) that “Discover” button for good.
Why Does the Bing Chat “Discover” Button Appear?
Microsoft wants to push its Bing Chat and AI features, so the “Discover” button shows up by default in Edge’s top-right corner. For many, it’s more annoying than helpful.
Can You Remove It Completely?
Short answer: You can hide it, but you can’t permanently uninstall it (unless Microsoft changes things). Here’s how to get rid of it from your view.
Method 1: Hide the “Discover” Button from Edge Settings
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the three dots (menu) in the top right corner.
- Go to “Settings.”
- In the sidebar, click on “Sidebar.”
- Under the “App and notification settings,” find “Discover.”
- Toggle “Show Discover” off.
That’s it! The Bing Chat “Discover” button should now be hidden from your toolbar.
Method 2: Remove via Group Policy (For Advanced Users or Admins)
If you’re managing multiple PCs, you can use Group Policy to remove the Discover button.
- Press
Win + R
and typegpedit.msc
to open Group Policy Editor. - Navigate to:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Edge > Allow Microsoft Edge Sidebar - Set it to Disabled.
Note: This will hide the entire sidebar, not just Discover.
Method 3: Remove Using Windows Registry (Advanced)
Warning: Only edit the registry if you’re comfortable doing so. Back up your data first.
- Press
Win + R
, typeregedit
, and hit Enter. - Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
- Right-click and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Name it:
HubsSidebarEnabled
- Set its value to 0.
Restart Edge for the changes to take effect.
Final Thoughts
The Bing Chat “Discover” button is a new push from Microsoft, but you have ways to keep your Edge experience distraction-free. Whether you prefer using built-in settings or tweaking under the hood, it only takes a few steps to hide what you don’t need.
